A ferocious thunderstorm recently unleashed a deluge at Dollywood, the iconic theme park affiliated with Dolly Parton, nestled in Tennessee. Dramatic footage captured within the park reveals torrents of water gushing past attractions, inundating shops, and transforming pathways into swift currents.
Visitors navigating the car Theme park encountered water levels reaching their waists, as they endeavored to access their vehicles, some of which were partially submerged. Dollywood issued a statement confirming that staff had guided guests to safety amid the tempest, reporting one minor injury in the process.
The park’s statement also indicated that they are assisting those affected by the storm’s aftermath, with clean-up operations underway. Officials will evaluate the situation to decide on the park’s reopening schedule.
On X, patrons shared their astonishment at the severity of the flooding, with some expressing concerns over the evacuation protocols. One user mentioned that individuals had to dismantle a fence to extricate their vehicles after a fallen tree blocked the exit. This incident marks the second water-related issue the park has faced this month, following a temporary closure due to a burst water main approximately two weeks prior.
The Knoxville Police Department alerted residents via X about ongoing heavy rain, cautioning drivers about the dangers of standing water and the potential for flash floods. They reiterated the importance of avoiding flooded roadways.
Numerous videos depict water surging down walkways at Dollywood, flooding stores, and leaving guests wading through knee-deep water in the parking area. According to the Pigeon Forge Police Department, a section of McCarter Hollow Road near the park’s entrance collapsed, prompting authorities to advise alternative routes.
The National Weather Service had previously issued a Flash Flood warning for Sevier County on Sunday, after which many shared visual evidence of the flooding on social media.
In response, Dollywood’s spokesperson confirmed a minor injury and detailed the measures being taken to assist guests and manage the situation. The park will continue to provide updates on social media as more information becomes available.
