Mercedes’ Maybach division has unveiled a fresh, ultra-luxurious interpretation of the SL roadster, introducing the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. Sharing the potent 577-hp V8 engine with the AMG SL, this new model offers its own unique vision of opulence. Expect to see it in showrooms by next summer.

Beyond the logos, the Maybach SL has much more to offer—though those iconic emblems are undeniably everywhere.

During an exclusive preview at a secure Malibu Hills residence a few weeks ago, the first thing that caught the eye wasn’t the striking tomato-red paint, the intricately designed wheels, or the elegant silhouette. It was those omnipresent double Ms.

A Legacy of Luxury: The Evolution of the Maybach Brand :

“This is a staple among luxury brands,” remarked Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener in a separate discussion. “It was an obvious choice.”

This marks at least the third revival for the Maybach brand.

Indeed, just as Louis Vuitton plasters its logo across purses, T-shirts, and socks, and Ralph Lauren does the same with its designs, Maybach has adorned its vehicles with its emblem. Whether or not it looks good on a car hood is subjective, but it’s likely to resonate with buyers, both as a status symbol and as a commercial success.

Why did Maybach create its own take on the Mercedes SL roadster? The Maybach brand has been expanding—not just in sales, but also in its lineup of models. While you can get a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan, an all-electric EQS SUV, and a GLS SUV, those desiring a high-end, ultra-luxurious two-seat convertible had to look elsewhere. The Mercedes SL, however, was perfectly poised for a Maybach makeover.

This car isn’t configured like a standard Mercedes SL, nor like the sporty AMG SL, which carries the performance pedigree of the AMG badge. Yet, the Maybach SL is indeed sporty. In fact, according to the brand’s management, the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is the most performance-oriented model in Maybach’s history.

“The Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series introduces a sporty two-seater to our lineup, offering the ultimate open-air driving experience,” stated Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach. “It marries a dynamic driving experience with all the hallmarks of Mercedes-Maybach: superb craftsmanship, exquisite design touches, and premium materials.”

Under the Hood: Power Meets Precision:

Under the hood, the 4.0-liter V8 delivers the same 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque as the AMG SL 63 Roadster, placing it above the standard Mercedes SL 43 and SL 55 models. Paired with Mercedes’ 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, the Maybach SL will sprint to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds, with an electronically capped top speed of 161 mph. Although we haven’t had the chance to drive it yet, there’s no doubt it will be a thrilling experience behind the wheel.

Where the Maybach SL truly differentiates itself is in its aesthetics. Available in two distinctive themes—Red Ambiance and White Ambiance—we got a sneak peek of the red version.

If ever a car could be displayed alongside Elvis decanters in a liquor store, this would be it.

Aesthetic Brilliance: Design That Captivates :

“The exceptionally radiant red and graceful white hues capture sensuality, beauty, and lightness,” says Mercedes-Maybach. “These colors perfectly embody the philosophy and driving experience of the all-new model. The interior is adorned with sustainably tanned, Manufaktur Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather and shimmering silver chrome accents.”

While the exterior design remains consistent with other SL models, the Maybach SL features a unique illuminated chrome radiator grille. The hood comes in “obsidian black metallic,” with an optional double-M Maybach logo pattern—though Maybach anticipates most buyers will opt for this signature detail. For those who prefer a more understated look, it’s also available in graphite grey.

Additional Maybach details include rose gold accents around the headlights, a chrome windshield frame, side sill panels, and 21-inch Maybach forged wheels, which come in either five-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke designs. Once again, if you could find a car in a liquor store next to the Elvis decanters, this would be it.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Luxury Roadsters :

A close look reveals the Maybach logo adorning the SL 680’s hood, as well as the insulated acoustic top. The rear of the car also features more of those double-Ms integrated into the taillights. The rear fascia and diffuser element are uniquely styled compared to other SL models.

Inside, the vehicle is outfitted with Nappa leather across the door panels, center console, and seats, the latter boasting a distinctive geometric design. Even the start-up animation on the digital driver display and center multimedia screen has been tailored with Maybach-specific graphics.

As for pricing, that remains under wraps until closer to the car’s U.S. launch next summer as a 2026 model. However, regardless of the cost, Wagener confidently assures that it will be “a tasteful offering.”
