Google has omitted the search results for Donald Trump’s assassination attempt, raising concerns among Republicans about possible meddling of upcoming US presidential elections.
Google’s recent omission of search results related to a failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has sparked controversy. Users seeking information about the incident were left puzzled when the search engine’s autocomplete feature failed to provide relevant suggestions. Despite typing phrases like “the assassination attempt of” users did not receive prompts about the July 13 event in Butler Pennsylvania which has raised concerns among some Republicans about potential bias.
Donald Trump Jr. accused Google, led by Sundar Pichai, of manipulating search results to influence the upcoming presidential election, claiming that the omission of suggestions related to the event was intentional. He expressed his frustration on social media, suggesting that the tech giant was attempting to interfere in the election to favor Kamala Harris, who has announced her candidacy with support from President Joe Biden.

In response, a Google spokesperson stated that no manual adjustments were made to the autocomplete suggestions and emphasized that the system has built-in safeguards to prevent suggestions related to political violence. They acknowledged the need for improvements to keep the system up-to-date and assured that users could still search for any topic directly. The spokesperson reiterated Google’s commitment to providing high-quality information following the incident.
