Donald Trump Jr. accused Google, led by Sundar Pichai, of manipulating search results to influence the upcoming presidential election, claiming that the omission of suggestions related to the event was intentional. news reported that while Google’s search suggestions included historical events like the failed assassination attempts on Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford, the recent incident involving Trump was notably absent. This discrepancy led to further accusations of bias, as users pointed out that searches for assassination attempts on other politicians, including John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, were not similarly affected.

In response, a Google spokesperson stated that no manual adjustments were made to the autocomplete suggestions and emphasized that the system has built-in safeguards to prevent suggestions related to political violence. They acknowledged the need for improvements to keep the system up-to-date and assured that users could still search for any topic directly. The spokesperson reiterated Google’s commitment to providing high-quality information following the incident.
